Gimme That #BigTrunkEnergy

The first real indoor houseplant that I bought. RIP. You are greatly missed.

I love me some Ficus.

Ficus elastica ‘Ruby’ is what started my plant obession. I used to think spending $28 on a Home Depot plant was painful. Hahaha…look at me now! >.<

So what had happened was…I just had my second baby; was about to turn 30; was getting off maternity leave; and my husband was away on a work trip for two weeks. I was going through some major life changes.

Usually when I go through a major life change, I change the color or style of my hair. This time, I decided to buy a houseplant. That single plant quickly escalated REAL quick to 30+ plants by April. 45+ plants by May. 60+ plants by June. 80+ plants by July. 100+ plants by September. There was a lot of learning to do…but knowing what I know now…I am going to share a few tips I learned from my plant daddy and other plant parents.

*Just FYSA, my first Ficus Elastica ‘Ruby’ died last summer. Death by overwatering.

Things I learned from @thevintageblonde_’s reaction video to @waldecksgardencentres:

  • Shaking Ficus Syndrome does not exist. Your Ficus loves a good ole whip back and forth because it mimics the wind and tropical rainstorms it experiences in its native environment.

  • It strengthens the trunk system.

  • It encourages root growth in order to stabilize the plant.

  • It likes it.

My Ficus corner featuring Benjamina, Tienke, Lyrata, and Elastica happily thriving in the grow tent.
